Executive Summary

The Business Challenge

A growing kids' fashion retailer was selling in store and online with no single view of stock, so in-store sales, online orders and deliveries drifted apart.

The Architectural Solution

One Next.js app for both the storefront and the back office. Staff sell through the built-in POS and scan barcodes into inventory; online orders, payments and deliveries land in the same database, and every sensitive action is written to an audit log.

Key Engineering Trade-offs & Operational Notes

01. One source of stock

POS sales and online orders update the same inventory, so stock never drifts between channels.

02. Camera as scanner

Barcode scanning runs in the browser, so no dedicated hardware is required.

03. Accountability built in

Back-office actions are written to an audit log.

Tech Stack & Role Matrix

Every library and framework in NextGen Kiddies was chosen with intentional architectural trade-offs to balance speed, type safety, security, and scalability.
